It’s amazing how I forget asymmetric crypto exists and be like “how did they do this?” every single time.


I wish they were more transparent about this. The whole release felt kinda rushed, they usually go into much more detail about their stuff. I’m totally fine with my stuff going in and coming out of encrypted RAM, that is virtually zero-acces, maybe besides some admins that could access it following four- or six-eye principles.
But I feel like the way they market Lumo makes you expect more than they can deliver.
Proton VPN uses the Android killswitch, which prevents any connection not going through the configured VPN on a system level. This comes with the downside that lokal connections do not work as well. Depending on your usecase and POV, this can be a positive or a negative. Proton could probably implement their own killswitch, but note that a non-system killswitch can simply be circumvented - which is probably exactly why they don’t offer it (yet).
